My Work

JourneyWatch

To fix a problem through app design, this conceptual brief was produced as part of one of my university modules.

Brief Provided

You will identify a problem that you would like to solve through the creation of a prototype app. We encourage you to look at contemporary and emerging technologies and use that to guide your output. You are also expected to incorporate the start of a brand identity that would be able to expand into a wider brand if required.

My Concept

As a student that commutes to and from university, I have regularly experienced these train delays and cancellations. It isn't just an issue seen in train services; buses are often unreliable too. There's no easy way to track both buses and trains in one app; what about people who need both for their commute? No current train or bus tracker apps offer live notification updates of your routes.

We can lessen the frustration of public transportation, but we cannot prevent cancellations and delays. My idea for an app will make it much easier for everyday commuters to travel. This app will be able to track trains and buses simultaneously, but it will also have the functionality of a typical transport tracker. Users will be able to set notification updates for their saved commutes, keeping them up to date with their journey at all times.

Due to its positive impact on the environment and rising fuel costs, public transportation usage has recently increased; this creates a greater need for transport tracking apps like the one I propose.

The app will be aimed at people between the ages of 16 and 35 because they understand how to use technology to make life easier. People who frequently commute to school or work will primarily use this app, but travellers can also use it. As a student who commutes, I am an excellent example of the app's intended audience and am well-versed in how to personalise their experience.
